Thermoforming | Flight produces high quality plastic trays and containers using the well-established ’thermoforming‘ process. In this process, plastic material is fed into the thermoforming machine, heated and formed into a multiple cavity mould using vacuum and/or pressure. The result is a thin-walled plastic container in either clear or coloured material produced efficiently, and at speed; typically for food, retail, horticultural and pharmaceutical packaging.

Job of all Sizes | Our facilities are state-of-the-art, and can accommodate most plastic packaging requirements using latest model high-speed thermoforming lines for medium to large volume work, and simpler contact-heat thermoforming machines for small runs.
  • Small runs are plastic products produced in quantities of tens of thousands of units.
  • Medium runs are quantities greater than 100,000.
  • Large runs are millions of units per job.
Flight produces several hundred million plastic packaging units each year. Many of our products are custom made for specific needs, but we also stock a range of standard products, which can be purchased in carton or pallet lots.

Security of Supply | Security of supply is key at Flight. We and our local suppliers hold substantial stockpiles of the required polymer resins and flake on hand to cover large and urgent packaging jobs. Investing in the latest high-tech extrusion technology means we can output the volume, size and specification plastic packaging required - an especially valuable service should a customer require assistance with an urgent stock shortage or specification change.
A Range of Plastic Materials | The plastic materials (polymers) we typically extrude in-house and thermoform into finished plastic packaging products include:

Lean Manufacturing | Reliability, consistency and efficiency are areas we constantly work on at Flight to ensure we meet and exceed our customers’ expectations. We are currently investing in a new lean manufacturing initiative called ‘Flight First Class’ to improve productivity and eliminate waste – we have a strong focus on sustainability.

We ensure our plastic packaging plants are as reliable as possible by driving a programme of regular planned maintenance and upgrading by our substantial in-house engineering team.

Our facilities have maximum redundancy built in as far as practical. For example our production tooling can run in multiple machines in case of unscheduled down-time, and we run dual plant service systems - ensuring we are always ready for the unexpected.

Retail-ready Labelling | Our high speed labelling system enables retail-ready labels to be affixed on retail packaging before packing and delivery.

Advanced Logistics | Finished plastic packaging products are packed and stored in clean condition – ready for local, national or export distribution via our advanced logistics systems.
